A Comfortable Dental Experience

At Grand Dental - Frankfort, one of our top priorities is your comfort. We understand that visiting the dental office can feel overwhelming and overstimulating for many patients, which is why we offer relaxing sedation dentistry in Frankfort. If you believe that you can benefit from a little additional help to have a more positive experience, we encourage you to give us a call. Our team can help you determine whether nitrous oxide, oral conscious, or IV sedation is right for you.

Why Choose Grand Dental – Frankfort for Sedation Dentistry?

Nitrous Oxide Dental Sedation

Gloved hands holding mask for nitrous oxide dental sedation

Nitrous oxide sedation is administered in-office, before your procedure or cleaning begins. Our team will place a small mask over your nose that will allow you to breathe in a colorless and odorless gas. Within a few short moments, you’ll feel a euphoric wave come over you that will allow you to remain in good spirits during your appointment. Once the mask is removed, it only takes a couple of minutes for the effects of the sedation to fully wear off.

Oral Conscious Dental Sedation

If you receive oral conscious sedation before your appointment, our office will send a prescription for you to pick up from your local pharmacy. About an hour before your visit, you’ll take a single pill. Typically, this prescription is Valium or Halcion, or another drug that’s in the diazepam family. By the time you arrive at our office, you will feel calmer than you normally would and more at-ease. Because it can take up to 12 hours for the effects to wear off, you’ll need to have a trusted friend or family member ready to drop you off and pick you up from our office.

IV Dental Sedation

IV sedation is usually recommended for patients who have more severe dental phobia, or for those undergoing more complex treatments, like dental implant placement. Instead of administering the medication through a nose mask or pill, it will be delivered directly to your blood stream for immediate and potent effects. Many of our patients who receive IV sedation don’t remember much of their visit, however, you’ll remain completely conscious and able to respond to our team during your appointment.
