Gum disease is among the most common oral health problems in the United States. In fact, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that one out of every two adults suffers from it. At Grand Dental - Frankfort, our top priority is to spot the signs of this common dental concern early on and treat it before it has a chance to progress. Call our office today if you’re experiencing any signs of gum disease, like bleeding while brushing or flossing, gum recession, or chronic dental sensitivity. Once we've had a chance to look at your mouth, our team can help you explore your options for gum disease treatment in Frankfort.
Scaling and root planing, better known as a deep cleaning, is a two-part treatment. First, our team will thoroughly clear away all plaque and tartar from the surface of your teeth as far down as the roots of your gums. Next, we will clear any hardened deposits of bacteria from the roots of the teeth, which will allow healthy gum tissue to reattach to the teeth and protect their vulnerable underlying structures. The goal is to keep the infection from progressing, and in signs cases of early gum disease, reverse the effects altogether.
In combination with scaling and root planing, our team may also utilize our soft tissue dental laser. The laser emits a very small beam of light that is able to kill harmful oral bacteria as well as vaporize severely damaged gum tissue. By implementing the laser in this treatment, we’re able to minimize bleeding and shorten your recovery time, as well as reduce the presence of infection-causing bacteria.
When we see patients with more progressed gum disease, we may recommend advanced procedures, like gum grafting. Or, if the damage has caused cosmetic imperfections that have affected your self-confidence, we can also provide cosmetic dental care to restore the appearance of your smile.
